Forensic Services
Our approach to Digital Forensics aims to provide accountability, and transparency for all data.
Diode provide specialised Digital Forensic services to our clients across New Zealand. We develop and assess digital forensics processes, and provide secure forensic collection, storage and analysis NZ-wide (via our Wellington-based fully capable Forensic Lab). Our forensic collection and storage processes include hardware write-blocking and are applicable to be used in a New Zealand regulatory or legal setting.
In addition, our team have responded to more than 750 cyber incidents across New Zealand, including performing detailed forensic investigations, e-Discovery and large data set analysis.
If your business has a need that isn’t specifically covered on this page, please do not hesitate to reach out, we love the opportunity to draw on and add to our wealth of knowledge in this space.
Collection and Preservation
Our point of difference lies in the way we approach collection and preservation. We have developed and refined our processes to provide the highest level of transparency and accuracy – know where your data is being stored, who can access it, who has accessed it, and have technical assurance that the data is an exact forensic match to the original.

We have a fully capable forensic lab based in Wellington, which includes:
No matter the data or device, we are equipped to meet your needs.
We have experience assisting NZ Government and law enforcement with in-person and remote data collection, forensic verification, and data validation, through to building custom high-throughput storage solutions with indexed searching and categorisation to assist with large-scale media investigations.
Discovery and Investigation
You don’t respond to over 750 cyber incidents without seeing (or making) a mistake or two. The Team at Diode can support forensic investigations and chain of custody for large data and privacy breaches, industrial control system environments, sensitive HR investigations, and compromised corporate devices and networks.
Digital Forensics
Whether you want a forensic timeline for the actions of an attacker or suspicious staff member, detailed image verification and validation, a breach analysis of your environment, or an expert witness to contextualise the outcome of an internal investigation, we can bring our experience to help you avoid the mistakes we’ve already made!
Incident Response
Our Incident Response Leader, Henry Fyers, has led the response to major incidents for a multitude of NZ Government and critical infrastructure clients – including teams of 30+ responders over multiple vendors.
Please see our Cyber Incident Response page if you would like overarching incident response support!
Process Development and Assessment
Diode can assess and develop your forensic processes, so they meet business or regulatory needs, and the requirements of the New Zealand Legal System. We pride ourselves on producing concise and elegant documentation and reflect this in our experience working with NZ Government and private entities to assess and develop processes and procedures – including for legally complex, multi-stakeholder, and remote forensic methodologies.
We draw upon learnings from our market experience, but also in continually developing our internal forensic processes – which require more rigour than many of our clients due to the breadth of engagements we are presented with.
Become a partner to receive 24/7/365 immediate response support, tailored threat warnings for your environment, analysis on whether you are impacted by new vulnerabilities, security operations support and security monitoring services.
Not sure if you need it? Get in touch now to organise a cyber incident simulation – tailored to your business. These exercises are fun and will identify gaps in your ability to respond. Simulations also build real muscle memory, and our clients have repeatedly told us that they have improved their ability to respond.
